News: Super Robot Wars OG The Moon Dwellers gets its English release on August 5th

We now know that Super Robot Wars OG The Moon Dwellers will have its Asian version released on August 5th. This version of the game will also be localized into English, with subtitles being available throughout (though thankfully retaining the original Japanese voices). While the Japanese release will be made available on both PS3 and PS4, it seems the Asian version will only be on PS4. As winkysoft are sadly no more, this looks to be more of an in-house game at Bandai Namco. It’s looking lovely though but it’s sad to think that much of the engine gruntwork was likely down to winkysoft. You can pre-order the game here and by all means check out the English trailer for the game below.

News: Stardust Galaxy Warriors, an overlooked gem

Last November; Indie developer Dreamloop Games released Stardust Galaxy Warriors to Steam, and… well. It seems hardly anyone noticed. Ourselves included.

What is it? It’s a casual, mecha themed shmup game featuring local co-op. It’s also sporting some great stage visuals, as well as an incredibly fun soundtrack which you can actually listen to here! It’s also available for purchase on Steam. You can choose from 4 different mecha, each with their own abilities, as well as selecting your weapon setup before launching. The game also boasts some light RPG elements, as you can choose different upgrades after beating a stage. This game certainly is fun, and if you’re the kind of person who likes to customize their experience; you can switch things up in the options. Giving you the options for things like enemy durability, fire rate, and more. The game can change as you want it.

With just 38 reviews on steam right now, this title really didn’t receive a lot of attention. Something I don’t quite understand. While researching the game in order to write this small article, I’ve found those who have played it seem to love it. The devs are nothing to turn your nose up at either it seems, as they’re quite passionate and really care about providing a quality product. As this Steam review I found highlights. I really look forward to seeing what Dreamloop has in store for the future. You can view the trailer for Stardust Galaxy Warriors below.

Bandai Namco have added a brand new original unit to the Maxi Boost On roster, Extreme Gundam Excellia. This unit is comes from the Gundam EXA universe and piloted by Sthesia, who you might know as the main navigator of the series. Excellia looks to be a pretty solid long range unit with gerobis, funnel-like beams, and AoE blasts. Considering its variety of attacks and health, it looks to be at least a 2500 cost unit. And if you aren’t lucky enough to play this in Japanese arcades but have Extreme VS Force, this unit will also be appearing in the 1.04 update coming some time in the near future. Until then, check out some Excellia gameplay in the video below!

News: Hawken is coming to Xbox One

Remember Hawken? The game that promised so much, only to dash all of that against the jagged rocks of an abysmally implemented free-to-play business model. Well, Hawken still survives and while the companies behind the scenes have shifted around somewhat the game still limps on. However, the good news here is that finally Hawken is coming to console. As a Taiwanese rating entry lists the game as coming to Xbox One courtesy of 505 Games. Bear in mind though, Hawken was originally meant as a console game so it seems that it is finally coming home.

We always loved the Kow Yokoyama infused mecha designs, despite the fact the creative team behind it said that they weren’t mecha at all. Fun times. The game was good too and had a great arcade sensibility to it, it’s just a pity that the approach to monetization was completely awful. These days you can still play the game on PC but it will be interesting to see how Hawken will do once it finally reaches console.

News: Gundam Breaker 3 Gets DLC In June

gb3_dlc

The recently released Gundam Breaker 3 is getting its first set of DLC in June. The main part of this being based around a new set of missions featuring the Hyakushiki J and Break Dias (shown above). These being obviously modified variants of the Hyakushiki and Rick Dias from Zeta Gundam. Apparently, this DLC will be based around a famous match from long ago. The good news here is that this DLC will be entirely free. The other big addition is that the 6th form of the Gundam Barbatos will also be included in another update, along with other Gunpla and extra missions. For fans in Japan there’s also a fan meeting on June 11th, so we may go to that. As for a review of Gundam Breaker 3, much like the previous game we got sick of the merciless grind for parts (as well as the insidious monetization attached to that). While the game is functionally excellent, the balancing is still way off for a full priced console game. However, at least this first set of DLC will be free.

News: Gundam Mobile Suit Sounds for Fallout 4’s Power Armor

If like me you saw Fallout 4’s power armour, and began to imagine the Gundam or mecha related possibilities in that through modding. Then like me you’re probably pretty disappointed, and a little confused at the lack of such mods. Even after almost 6 months since release, and more than a week since the G.E.C.K was released… Nadda, zip, zilch, and boy have I looked.

It’s not all bad news however, as mod author Artesia58 came up with a sound effects replacement mod named Ultimate Robot Sound that replaces the standard power armor sounds with ones from Mobile Suit Gundam. Not only that but an optional file also replaces the laser rifle’s stock sfx with that of the Gundam’s famous beam rifle, the V.A.T.S noise with the Newtype flash, AND replaces the “flames” paint scheme for the T-45 power armour with a Char’s Custom scheme instead. Over all I’m pretty impressed, and it works really well in game. It’s just tons of fun.

I went ahead and made a small video to demo the mod, which you can view below. So if you’ve got Fallout 4 and you really want a little more Gundam in it. I can’t recommend this mod highly enough.

Reviews: Super Robot Wars BX (9/10)

srwbx_coverOccasionally the Super Robot Wars games do something unexpected and the handheld versions tend to do really go for it when they do so. Super Robot Wars UX had a Hatsune Miku inspired Fei-Yen and brought the Wings of Rean aura battlers onboard, in the case of BX though the roster went back a lot further.

To clarify, BX is the first game in the series to not only feature Galient but also Giant Gorg. For any self respecting mecha anime fan, those are two series that are both brilliant and it is surprising that it took them this long to be featured in Super Robot Wars. The result is probably one of the best and most faithful Super Robot Wars game in a very long time.

News: Armored Core, Tron Bonne On Sale At PSN

As part of their Golden Week sale, Sony’s PSN store is offering deep discounts on the original PSone Armored Core and The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. Each are available for $2.99, and 25% cheaper than that with PS Plus. I’m not sure what mechanical war machines have to do with Golden Week, but it’s clear evidence that Japan has cooler holidays than anyone in the West.

For those of you asking if Tron Bonne counts as a true mecha game: if it’s a machine, if there’s a pilot, if it has legs, and if one of those legs could stomp a human skull into mash, then that’s a mecha. Sale ends on May 2nd.

Great news for people who were waiting on the western release of Gundam Extreme VS Force. According to Gematsu, the game will be launching in the Americas on July 12, 2016 for the Playstation Vita. When the game released in Japan late last year, it was smashed by fans for mainstay units having a reduced moveset compared to its predecessors and not having certain gameplay modes that were usually launched with other Gundam VS titles, such as Free Battle and Course Battle. Recent patches have added these modes for free to bolster the amount of playable content to include more playable units and other quality of life additions. Hopefully the western release will have these patches already built in, but if they don’t you’ll more than likely have to patch the game right away before you play. While it might not tick all the boxes if you’re looking for the Extreme VS fix, it is a decent single-player portable Gundam game that you finally don’t have to import.

agefx

While previously teased on banners before the game’s official release last month, it looks like AGE-FX is finally joining the rest of the cast in Gundam EXVS Maxi Boost On. As a 3000 cost unit, AGE-FX will definitely lay on the hurt with its arsenal of flying bits and porcupine-esque melee action. To help give it a bit more variety, AGE-FX can call on AGE-2 Dark Hound and the AGE-1 Full Glansa for various types of defensive and offensive assists. It also looks like it has somewhat of a mobile armor movement with AGE-FX hanging onto AGE-2 Dark Hound. There are also the C-Funnels for funnel hounding and the FX-Burst mode that improves your melee and movement capabilities. If you’re lucky enough to live in Japan and next to a game center, definitely give it a whirl and let us know how it stacks up to the rest of the cast. If not, you’ll just have to check out the video below!
