Vanillaware have finally announced their new game and it’s called 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim. Not only does it look suitably sumptuous, like all their games, but it also features mecha. While not much is known about the game, bar that is set for release on PS4 and PS Vita, we are very curious to see how this title will turn out. Previously Vanillaware has only really done fantasy themed action RPG’s, often with a historical bent. This looks decidedly futuristic and sci-fi with it. The music is also being Hitoshi Sakimoto and thus far has a real Origa vibe to it. The launch trailer is shown below.

Following the news that the next Gundam Extreme Versus game would be shown at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, we now know that Gundam Extreme Versus Force will very likely be a PS Vita exclusive. In the launch trailer (shown below) we see all manner of new game modes and mobile suits, with the YG-111 Gundam G-Self being notable. The upcoming ASW-G-66 Gundam Barbatos may also be present in the game but no further details are available about that yet. This will be the first named entry in the series to not have an initial arcade release. While this is definitely a PS Vita game we may yet still see a PS4 game come out but we’ll just have to wait and see if anything else pops up. No release is currently set but it’s probable we’ll see something next year.

The sequel to the first freemium Gundam game by Bandai Namco is now finally out in the wild. Compared to the beta version Gundam Battle Operation Next is definitely an improvement, in regards to general movement and controls, but it’s still pretty underwhelming. Bear in mind we’re in Japan so server issues and lag aren’t really a problem but even then the game is not exactly great. While it may look similar to the Gundam Breaker games, the core team behind that didn’t work on this (which likely explains why the gameplay element feels so disappointing). In any case, the game is now out on both PS3 and PS4 so you can see for yourselves what it’s like.

With the release of Super Robot Wars BX looming, we’ve been graced with a new promo. It shows a lot of new animation and the game is looking great really. Bandai Namco also announced a new Super Robot Wars mobile game but that looks pretty awful and isn’t being developed by the main team anyway, in fact it’s being done by Sega Games so that likely explains a lot. Thankfully BX is at least a proper game to look forward to. The game is released on August 20th in Japan and you can pre-order it here.

Following the reveal we now have some initial combat footage for the Platinum Games developed Transformers Devastation. We’re loving the cel shading and the combat looks decent enough too but the whole aerial ramming in vehicle mode looks a bit odd. It will be interesting to see how it will play once it is released in October this year. We’re definitely excited for it though, which is a novel feeling to have for a Transformers games.

One of the more interesting releases from Bandai as of late has been their DX Chogokin VF-19 Advance as seen very briefly in the second Macross Frontier movie. As there have been a fair few YF-19 toy releases already, and we reviewed Arcadia’s last attempt, this is the first time that Bandai has attempted the design to this degree of fidelity. As you might expect, Bandai have utterly nailed it.

Due to all the pre-orders that Super Robot Wars BX has received, Bandai Namco will be including a download code for 2nd Super Robot Wars for those that buy the game at launch. This was the follow on to the first Game Boy game released in the same year, except this was (originally) on the NES. It also kickstarted the whole series to become a serious sit-down console game, rather than just something for a handhelds. The fact we’re getting this included with BX is a nice little touch. We were recently graced with all manner of new promo videos for the upcoming Super Robot Wars BX. The first was an hour long conference that covered various things regarding the future of Super Robot Wars (we’re getting an iPhone app apparently) but also got some new footage of BX. This was then released as a separate video, so you don’t need to trawl through the hour long conference.

The game is looking good though and the sprites have been partially updated for the returning series it seems. Though it does feel a bit weird when gaming franchise make their way into these games, as the Macross 30 units squaring off in another game is a bit odd but still cool obviously. Amongst the rather amazing selection of games announced at Sony’s PlayStation Briefing at this year’s E3, was the game Rigs. Developed by Guerrilla Cambridge, Rigs is basically an e-sports type first person shooter with mecha. The twist is that it uses the Morpheus VR headset for the PS4. Now I am not sure whether this will be any good but it looks promising at least and the Morpheus setup could result in something interesting. The trailer for the game (shown below) is quite interesting but seems more interested in showing the various facial reactions of the players rather than the game itself. No word on when this will be out but we’ll be keeping our yes on this.

So a commercial listing for the upcoming Transformers Devastation was recently leaked. This is a cel-shaded brawler developed by Platinum Games, set for release on pretty much everything (as in PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360). The game will also feature all the classic 80’s English voice cast too. After the High Moon games we are a bit wary of someone else handling Transformers, that said this is Platinum we are talking about and they do make well crafted games on the whole. The cel-shading also looks good too but until we see it in motion we’ll reserve judgement, as this kind of thing is notoriously difficult to get right. Set for an October release this year our fingers are crossed for this one!
