News: Noboru Ishiguro passes away

It’s been reported that veteran anime director Noboru Ishiguro passed away recently at the age of 73. A monolithic figure in anime, he helmed all manner of classic mecha anime from Macross to Orguss as well as Megazone 23. Not to mention his amazing work on the original Yamato and the utterly epic Legend of Galactic Heroes. Considering that Hiroshi Kakoi only died last year (though under very different circumstances obviously), to have yet another Macross alumni pass away is so very sad. As always, our thoughts are with his friends and family during this difficult time.

One of the most memorable mecha anime I’ve seen was Do You Remember Love. I really remember the way the mech’s seemed massive in that movie, you could really feel their scale.

Goodbye Mr. Noboru Ishiguro, the community will miss you!

It’s a terrible loss. Granted, he did so much, but…he was still active as a director.

MACROSS, ORGUSS, MEGAZONE 23…yep, these were my intros into anime at the tail end of the 1980s, and I have to thank this man for them.

A few years ago I got the chance to see him speak at an anime convention in New York. He was so down-to-earth, so humble about his work.

Do You Remember Love was the film that introduced the Japanese language to me. So his passing goes with much respect from this fan , and I believe I saw him at one of the So Cal. Anime Expos over the years.

MGS Salute RIP
