News: MechWarrior reboot PC exclusive

PC Gamer has the scoop on the fact that the long awaited MechWarrior reboot will be a PC exclusive. Whilst the console gaming crowd maybe a tad miffed about this, the original MechWarrior games were all PC based (as they were pretty technical simulations after all). If we’re honest, we’re a bit surprised at this development. Not only because this was meant as a reboot, which normally means the original IP gets sold down the river, but also because this franchise is licensed from Microsoft (via Smith & Tinker) so to not have a 360 version is refreshing. Either way we’re actually pretty happy about this development and we’re curious to see what more is announced soon. Cheers to Greg for the heads up.

Update: Turns out this will be an online only game using something similar to the freemium model. Move along everybody, the party’s elsewhere.

oh wow. I would say it’s great news.

Wait, are you not happy about this Cacophanus?

Are you kidding me? It’s freemium crap!

I seriously hope you are trolling right now or I swear to god we will have to bro down.

League of Legends and TF2 are probably the finest examples of freemium and I love them to death. Recently played some of the Blacklight Retribution beta and the game it self is solid but the personal progression is of a steeper slope than I’d like. What’s more, using the game points only unlocks the extra equipment for a certain amount of time and that was the same BS that made me stop playing S4 league.

So? A few semi-decent games doesn’t make up for the fact that the vast majority of freemium games are suppurating welts of bubbling excrement.

But until more of the game is revealed, wouldn’t it be better to wait and see…

A freemium model could be useful and work rather well in the Battletech universe. I’m not saying that it WILL be that… as we don’t know nearly enough about the game yet… but ruling it out right from the get go does seem a tad short sighted.

I’ll remain a bit optimistic for now. This could be the revival of Mechwarrior we’ve all waited for… As it is, they are saying its not going to be a reboot in the classic sense and instead be strongly tied to the vast and awesome history and universe of the Battletech board game. I gotta say, something that uses that universe properly can have my money if the game turns out good!

S4 League’s freemium bullshit is why I used itemhacks whenever I did play that unbalanced piece of crap.

SDGO does freemium pretty okay, you get stuff a few days earlier and a few things that let you play with different MS (SD Sangokuden stuff) nothing gamebreaking like $4 League where you just pay to win.

Since when has piloting a giant legged mech from the seat of your pants been disappointing?
