News: Battle Robot Damashii Announced

Over at Famitsu it’s been announced that Bandai Namco are going to release a new Artdink developed PSP mecha action game called Battle Robot Damashii. What’s interesting about this is that it features mecha exclusively from the Robot Damashii toyline and it totally encroaches on From Software’s Another Century Episode games. The fact it’s on PSP is also a pretty good thing, as Artdink’s tech and processes are pretty matured for the handheld. So in that regard we’re expecting something functionally pretty tight and polished. The game will be released in February of next year.

Is that Star Driver?!?! I’m sold.

Yep, it is.

Gundam seems to be absent.

Thus far. This is only the initial roster, it hints there will be more series included (I’m hoping for Dunbine).

Are you hoping for Dunbine for game mechanics reasons, or because giant robot bug knights rule so hard?

I’d like to see something a bit more classic like Dunbine in there myself; the current roster leans heavily towards more modern Real Robots, all of which have that clean, thin, tall and angular look to them that I’m not a particular fan of.

Also, is this translation software correct in implying the Macross units won’t be able to transform out of Battloid mode? I can understand why they might do that (it’s hard to put airplane physics into a mecha game for just a few units) but it’d be really sad if that were true.

Dunbine units are generally interesting from a functional standpoint, as they’re just very different in terms of how they work.

As for the Macross Frontier units not be able to transform. I don’t think they will copy the literal functionality from the toys, rather the host series itself.

Here’s hoping for a 00 Gundam Seven Swords. Or Gundam at all for that matter.

While it might seem the PSP as a choice for this game was bad news for PS Vita owners , most of the PSP games run on the Ps Vita anyways , so here is hoping they release it cheap and as a PSN Japan title .

Artdink? Mecha? PSP?

…Count me in. This could be interesting…..
