Toys: Super Robot Chogokin Range Announced

Over at AmiAmi they have some nice coverage surrounding the announcement of a new mecha toy line from Bandai, which will be called Super Robot Chogokin. This will be a smaller scale and more price friendly range of toys to supplement the flagship Soul of Chogokin line. The reasoning behind this is most probably down to the increasing popularity of Kaiyodo’s Revoltech toys not to mention Bandai’s own success with the Robot Damashii range. In short, consumers now prefer smaller and more durable toys that can be played with as well as dynamically posed without having to pay the GDP of a small country.

From a gaming standpoint, this new Super Robot Chogokin line will also sport multiple “original generation” entries from the Super Robot Wars games. With the Alteisen being shown prominently in the coverage thus far. Considering the cost of the other Soul of Chogokin variants not mention the scarily fragile Volks figures, this new range sounds spot on for the gaming populace.

Nice. It does remind me a bit of the small die-cast metal robot toys my friends used to play with when we were kids. As much as I like the SOC line, they are quite pricey, and some of us aren’t made out of money…

I’m not too hot on the idea of selling weapon sets independent of the figure, but them not being Web Shop Limited (at least I THINK they’re not) is a step in the right direction for sure.

If this leads to a combinable set of the SRX team units I’m all for it. Though after seeing the Daizenger and Ausswreiter SOC get made I had hopes for an SRX still but this sounds more promising.

well, what been seen so far seems to indicate the robots that should be combining or transforming don’t have their combining/transforming gimmicks, so a functional SRX seems improbable at best.

Also, do I see a Dendoh in there? I’ve been craving for a decent toy of him that wasn’t the snap together model.

Ooh, it says they’re supposed to be more poseable than the Soul of Chogokin ones. Looks like they’re approx. HGUC-size too.

The price always did put me off the SoC figures, but these look reasonable enough – the Alt is the most expensive of the lineup at 5K yen, possibly because of all the gimmicks – it looks like the claymore launcher hatches can be opened. I am very definitely tempted to pick up a couple of these.

It’s a bit odd that they don’t have any Getters in the lineup, though.
