With a new Super Robot Wars Mobile brand on the way, Banpresto have kicked this new series of iSuper Robot Wars games off with Super Robo M released yesterday for 525 yen. On the GBA-end of the SRW graphics spectrum it’s not overly new in terms of animations and sprites but it is an awful lot cheaper than the GBA games were. Currently the game is only available on Docomo phones via the simulation submenu in the games section. The roster of mecha series is pretty classic but we’re just happy to see Dancougar featured again. Considering Banpresto are turning this into a brand it will be likely we’ll see something similar on Android and iOS devices too.
With the upcoming Earth Defense Force Insect Armageddon slated for release next year, D3 have announced three new games in the series. From the plucky PSP port of the excellent second game, shown above, to even a new mobile game (called Earth Defense Force Legend). However, the big surprise is the announcement of Earth Defense Force 4. It seems that Sandlot are still hard at work, as at the very least they’d be needed to port the upcoming PSP version. The news of proper continuation from Earth Defense Force 3 (aka 2017 in the West) is very much appreciated though.
For those somewhat confused as to what these games have to do with mecha, well the simple fact is that without Sandlot’s prior expertise (and subsequent technology base) in the genre the EDF games wouldn’t exist. If you’re at all curious about this lineage then we heartily recommend you read our feature on the subject. The new promo video is also shown below.
It seems that Yahoo are launching the original Virtual On today for two Softbank phones in Japan (the 930P and 931P, made by Panasonic). Priced at 315 yen it appears to contain the entire game, with 8 playable VR’s (so Jaguarandi and Z-Gradt aren’t available basically). Visually it looks similar to the Saturn version, which isn’t a bad thing by any stretch (as it worked great on a pad). In any case, we want it and with any luck we could even see an iPhone version.
