With the run up to Gundam Unicorn’s release, the wondrous Anime News Network will be streaming the entirety of Zeta Gundam (in Japanese with English subtitles, in case you’re wondering) until April 22nd. Admittedly, this doesn’t include the three re-animated movies that were released a few years back, but all 50 episodes of probably one of the most renowned Gundam shows isn’t to be scoffed at. Naturally, Zeta has been featured in numerous games over the years from Super Robot Wars to Another Century’s Episode and multiple Gundam game tie-ins (with the excellent Gundam vs Gundam Next Plus being no exception).

Following Zeta, the original Gundam and SEED will also be streamed via the same service later this month. In any case, if you want to start watching Zeta, then go here.

This is great news. The tv show really is something special. The movies on the other hand, are incomprehensible and are better off being viewed only as a supplement.

I love the movies. Need to see a 1080p subbed version though – or well, 480p would be fine too, thanks to a good scaler in my displays.

“…probably one of the most renowned Gundam shows…”?

More like, “the most renowned Gundam show”.

As for the Z movies, I only saw the first two. Despite sounding like a terrible idea (80s style TV re-edit compilation with 21st century animation added in) they actually work really well.

I wouldn’t say Zeta is the most renowned series, as the original Gundam is still regarded as being definitive in terms of the UC saga.

except of course that the movies make no sense as stand alone stories. They can absolutely not be understood by someone who has never seen the series.
