Courtesy of our good friends at HobbyLink Japan we’ve been sent the Super Robot Chogokin Shin Getter Robo 1 as seen in Change!! Shin Getter Robo (though its origins predate that by quite a bit). In addition, we’ve also included some game and anime footage of the mecha in action at the end of the review.

The forthcoming BluRay boxset for the amazing Blue Comet SPT Layzner that we previously talked about has received two promo videos. These are of the respective openings for the TV series, comprising of the first and second season. These are both credit-less, though with a nicely placed advert for the boxset mid-video (and if you’ve seen the anime then that should make sense). However, what is worth noting is that the picture quality is astounding. If the whole series is like this then we’re picking this boxset up regardless. Both promos are linked below and you can pre-order the boxset here.

The fourth episode for Super Robot Wars Operation Extend is now out. If you’ve already bought the combined pack then you can download it for free, otherwise you’ll pay 1000 yen. This update features Shin Getter Robo and the promo video below also shows a nice homage to the Dunbine OVA, as it features (very briefly) the beastly Zwarth.

Toys: Robot Damashii Hi-Nu Gundam Revealed

At a Tamashii Nations event in Hong Kong, Bandai have revealed all manner of new toys in their Robot Damashii line. Notable of which are the NZ-666 Kshatriya and the majestic RX-93-ν2 Hi-Nu Gundam (pictured above). Whilst it is called a “GUMDAN” in various photos, that spelling mistake can’t dampen our palpable joy at knowing a Hi-Nu toy is on the way. Whilst there are no release details present, such as date and price, we are guessing that these two figures might end up as a web shop exclusive (though we’re hoping they won’t). Either way, today is a happy day as the Hi-Nu is probably our favourite Gundam design and as soon as we know more about these toys we’ll be sure to post it.

The third episode for Super Robot Wars Operation Extend is now out. If you’ve already bought the combined pack then you can download it for free, otherwise you’ll pay 1000 yen. In addition, you can also buy Cybuster from the Masou Kishin games for a very reasonable 200 yen. This update is also very Gundam heavy too, featuring Gundam 0080 to Wing and 00.

There will be an Armored Core Convention held on the 7th September in Washington DC. Apparently LAN games will be supported as well as the chance to win Armored Core figures (plus the opportunity to drink booze). The convention also marks the series’ 16th birthday, which is nice. More details will be forthcoming closer to the time but you can go to the Facebook page to show your support and interest. Talking of Armored Core, there’s a pretty interesting interview over at 4Gamer about Verdict Day.

The second episode for Super Robot Wars Operation Extend is now out. If you’ve already bought the combined pack that you can download it for free, otherwise you’ll pay 200 yen. More units will be added to the roster, featuring that of Gurren Lagann. We’ve been enjoying the game thus far but without the freemium booster (which we bought) the game would be a motherless grind and in places probably quite unfair. Once all the episodes have been released we’ll likely review the game but thus far it’s pretty good.

News: Super Robot Wars Operation Extend Released Today

The first ever download only game in the series, Super Robot Wars Operation Extend, is released today. We’ve bought the combined pack, as the game will be released episodically, but currently only the first episode is available. What’s also slightly interesting is that there are a bunch of freemium like parts you can buy too. We’re not sure about this, as Gundam Breaker has something similar (of which a review of that will be forthcoming). Whilst this isn’t so much pay to win it does seem to be pay to make things easier. In any case, buying all the episodes at once gives you a Gundam unit piloted by Sergeant Frog as a nice little bonus. The next episode will be released on August 1st.

We now have some more details on Super Robot Wars Operation Extend, specifically that it will be released on July 18th and that you can buy all 8 episodes for 5,980 yen. If you decide to buy each episode separately, then the first will cost you 500 yen whereas the remaining installments will be priced at 1,000 yen (so it makes sense to buy them all at once really). The new promo also covers more about the back-end management system in the game too, with parts trading being a pretty cool thing to add. Apart from that we have all manner of sexy new battle animations to look at, including that of the game’s unique OG mecha and pilots. In any case, we’ll be absolutely buying this on its release and we really can’t wait for it either.
