News: Chikyuu Boueigun 4 Mecha Revealed

We’ve somewhat held off talking about Chikyuu Boueigun 4 (aka EDF4) for a while now but this news seemed worthy. Considering that this game series was birthed from Sandlot’s nerdy love of classic mecha anime and the tech it produced during the PS2 era, the mecha lineage is a notable one. So when they added mecha to the third game we were pretty excited. However, it wasn’t very useful in-game if we’re honest. This new mecha looks more the part though, almost out of VOTOMS with a nice Shinji Aramaki twist from MADOX-01. Anyway, we’ll be buying this when it’s finally released next year and it should be better than the dire Insect Armageddon as Sandlot are working on this again (yay!).

News: Gundam Extreme Versus Patch and New DLC Released Today

A new patch and DLC for Gundam Extreme Versus has gone live today. As we previously mentioned, this DLC includes the RX-105 Xi Gundam and RX-78GP03S Gundam Dendrobium priced at 500 yen a piece. The patch is also a pretty sizeable one, at 244 MB, and it lacks new Trial Missions too. That aside, the new units are pretty awesome (especially the Xi). In addition, the game itself is now available at a drastically reduced price as part of a Best re-release. You can buy that version here.

We now finally have a decent promo for the upcoming Macross 30 (shown below). It shows a fair bit of gameplay and it’s clear that this game is slower paced than the PSP counterparts, almost languid. That said it does look fine and the framerate is pretty high and consistent throughout. So at least that won’t make controlling your variable fighter too arduous. Bar that we (briefly) also get to see the new YF-30 in fighter mode, so that’s something at least. The game is still set for its February 28th release year and you can pre-order it here.

Since 2nd Super Robot Wars OG was released on the 29th November, barely a week ago, it has racked up 217,000 units sold in Japan and in doing so taken the top spot in the charts. That’s pretty damn good going really. Whilst our copy is still in the post, it’s clear that fans have been waiting for their first real PS3 Super Robot Wars game for a good while. In addition to the chart news, there are a slew of new screenshots available too. Naturally, once our copy finally arrives a review will be forthcoming. In the meantime, you can buy your copy here.

News: Macross 30 Mission Structure Update

In addition to the YF-30 reveal, it seems that Macross 30 will also have a more open ended mission structure too. Over at 4Gamer they give more detail on how players will effectively find quests in levels and then undertake them. Like the previous Artdink Macross games, you’ll also have a hangar where you can prepare and outfit your various variable fighters. Interestingly, it seems that we’ll also have a lot of choice of units (though likely not as much as the last PSP game). On top of all this, there will be some new characters created for the game as well. As for that limited edition YF-29, it’s nothing overly special and is actually more than a little bit hideous. Considering that the game has been described as a “flight action RPG”, we now have a better idea of what that means. Whilst it won’t be open world, in the Western sense, the whole setup sounds pretty damn cool really. The game is still set for its February 28th release next year and you can pre-order the standard edition here.

News: YF-30 Kronos Revealed

As suspected, the logo for the forthcoming PS3 game Macross 30 does indeed show the silhouette of a new a variable fighter. Now we know it’s called the YF-30 Kronos, though in the case of the latter it may either be Kronos or Chronos (as the katakana isn’t overly revealing on that front). We’re guessing it refers to the Titan (Kronos) rather than the god of time (Chronos) but we may be wrong on that. In any case, this variable fighter is also designed by Shoji Kawamori and is likely to be featured in the game.

Following on from our review of the 1/60 VF-19 Custom Fire Valkyrie, our good friends at HobbyLink Japan have also sent us the 1/60 Sound Booster for VF-19 Custom Fire Valkyrie from Macross 7. It’s important to clarify that the Sound Booster doesn’t come with the Fire Valkyrie, that has to be purchased separately. In addition, we’ve also included some game and animation footage at the end of the review.

News: New Mobile Suits Added to Gundam Extreme Versus and Full Boost

Posted on : 28-11-2012 | By : | In : News, Videos

The Gundam Extreme Versus Full Boost website has been updated with a plethora of new mobile suits. Aside from the RX-105 Xi Gundam and the XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero, whom were previously announced, a total of five new units have been officially added to the foray. They are the YAMS-132 Rozen Zulu from Gundam Unicorn, MBF-P01-Re Astray Gold Frame Amatsu from Gundam Seed Astray, Mashymre Cello’s AMX-011S Zaku III Custom from Gundam ZZ, GN-007 Arios Gundam from Gundam 00 and the GP-03 Gundam Dendrobium (pictured above) from 0083 Stardust Memory, which was last  playable in Gundam VS Gundam Next Plus.

This coincides with the recent Full Boost mobile site leak, where even more new mobile suits are shown, including some previously mentioned. Those units are the following: XM-X3 Crossbone Gundam X-3, ZGMF-X88S Gaia Gundam, G-Armor, AMX-109 Corin Nander’s Kapool, AGX-04 Gerbera Tetra, RGM-79FC Striker Custom, and Gundam AGE-1. While not visible, the MSA-0011 S Gundam also appears to be in as well as text mentions the ALICE system that resides in the S Gundam that was featured in Gundam Sentinel.

There’s also a little surprise for Gundam Extreme Versus players out there on the PS3. “The Best” re-release will be accompanied by new DLC units on December 13th. The two units are the Xi Gundam and GP-03 Gundam Dendrobium and they will go for 500 yen each. There is also a special six pack DLC for 2,000 yen that includes the previous 6 DLC units. Hopefully Namco Bandai will continue to fill in the long void between now and the probable console release of Full Boost with more unit DLC for console players. As a huge Gundam Extreme Versus player myself, I am definitely looking forward to jumping online with these two new mobile suits.

Check the video below to see the new PS3 additions in action. If you look closely, the footage for Xi Gundam is the same as the recent Full Boost character reveal as well.

What with the release of 2nd Super Robot Wars OG next week, 4Gamer have a great piece featuring some of the more classic units in the game. From the mecha seen in the Masoukishin games to the mighty Raioh from Alpha 3 (shown above). Just seeing Raioh again in-game brings back so many fond memories. In addition, there’s a new 14 minute digest movie showing the game in action (linked below). More of a straight playthrough than a swanky trailer, you get to see the game as it is. Don’t forget you can still pre-order your copy here.

News: Virtual On Marz to get TwinStick support

Posted on : 20-11-2012 | By : | In : News

It seems that we’ll be getting a PSN game archive release of Virtual On Marz next year. This was a pseudo-port of Force on the PS2 that had a rather broken singleplayer campaign. What’s interesting is that this will have support for HORI’s upcoming PS3 TwinStick peripheral. Now, we’ve played the game on a pair of modded Saturn sticks and it does indeed play a lot better, so to have something that offers the same thing in an official capacity is a good thing. Still no word of an Oratan or Force release on the PS3 but this is at least a step in the right direction.
