News: No-shows at this year’s TGS

From the number of tweets we’ve been getting, it seems only fair to answer some of your questions. The recurring questions we’ve got regard the absence of Armored Core 5, Bumpy Trot 2 and Macross Trial Frontier. In the case of the latter, there is a looping movie being shown at the Bandai Namco stall but despite the game being finished there’s nothing playable at the show (though the game footage does look lovely and it’s pretty clear that the game is indeed very similar to Artdink’s recent PSP games). In addition, Irem have quite a nice presence this year but when we quizzed them about Bumpy Trot 2 they simply had a “no comment”. As for Armored Core 5? Absolutely nothing, not even a video preview and due to From Software not having a presence at the show we’ve been unable to quiz anyone about it.

Considering that Front Mission Evolved is playable in about three separate booths this year (despite being available in the shops already in Japan) it may be that From Software decided to wait this one out, as Armored Core 5 is potentially quite similar in approach. In any case, it’s not as though From Software needed to be worried as after playing Front Mission Evolved quite a bit its is really quite painfully average.

sad to hear that FME is not that great ;(

I told everyone that FME wouldn’t be good but no one would believe me.

Well, you know seeing as how everyone runs on food and water as opposed to spite and bitterness, it’s no wonder nobody bothered to pay attention to you.

Iam less saddened by the fact that FME is a flop than I am about Armored Core 5 not being given any floor time this year. We havnt heard anything new in at least 6 months. From has basically told us “Hey,were making this new game….heres a few screens and a short movie, enjoy the next couple years of waiting”.

But that’s the thing, on their official website, it says “Coming 2010”. So it’s SUPPOSED to be coming out this year in Japan.

This is kinda disappointing.

Also, no news about SRW L?

FME is painfully average?

Oh, thank God! I thought it was going to be terrible!

The lack of Armored Core 5 worries me, because the unexpected success of Demon’s Souls probably means that From Software is re-evaluating their game plan, as we can tell from the game they DID show at TGS: a Demon’s Souls styled action game for the PS3 and the Xbox 360 this time around. I’d expect a delay in Armored Core 5 for that reason, as priorities get shuffled, especially if they’re working on the new Steel Battalion.

I’m not too pessimistic, though, simply because From Software isn’t going to walk away completely from Armored Core 5, and in the meantime they’ll be making in mad cash, which will lead to higher production values overall. Besides, it’d be interesting to see what From does after concentrating on the semi-roguelike mechanics of Demon’s Souls–it could lead to newer ideas that make AC5 a more innovative game.

Bumpy Trot 2 getting a “no comment” means the hope still burns in my heart. Maybe this shall be mecha gaming’s Duke Nukem Forever.

Nothing will beat Duke Nukem Forever, I still wager that that game still wont comeout, even after being picked up by gearbox, the actually rights off the game are still up in the air, if anything the mecha version of duke would mechwarrior, anyone else remember that preview yonks ago? yeah same thing.

FME could care less about, knew it would be a flop but no AC 5 is shocking, I dont see that comming out this year again despite what their website says, it would be dumb to miss TGS otherwise.

I wouldn’t worry too much about From Software backing away from Armored Core anytime soon, the games have sold as well as Demon’s Souls over the years and the merchandising lines make them a lot of money too.

From what I can gather, after sniffing around a bit, AC5 may get delayed until next year now – as they want to make sure it’s suitably polished. Not to mention, with all their other work on, they’ve got a fair bit logistics and scheduling to contend with.

It’s a shame it wasn’t at TGS but I’d rather wait knowing they’ve had the time to make the game they’re happy with.

Very sad, I look forward to Armored Core 5 and Bumpy Trot 2 very much. I hope there will be more information available about those two games soon.

Meh, so I guess you guys don’t give Vanquish a spin.

Me sad.

Also, mecha’s Duke Nukem Forever is Megaman legends 3.

Don’t mind AC5 getting bumped back. They are busy with the Demon’s Souls sequel, among other things, so I’m very much willing to wait. Also poor, so yeah.
