News: Macross 30 Update

We now have some new information on Macross 30, courtesy of Famitsu, which is now fully called “Macross 30: Ginga o Tsunagu Utagoe” or “Macross 30: The Voice that Connects The Galaxy”. The big news is that this is indeed developed by Artdink and it leans toward an action RPG of sorts, though this likely means it has an Academy Mode bent as per Macross Triangle Frontier. The other interesting thing is that the game is set on the planet Ouroboros after a fold incident that has warped in the various characters from their respective parts in the timeline into one place (a tad Super Robot wars that). For those that know their mythology, the Ouroboros is a symbol of a snake eating its own tail that represents eternal return. Likely this is nod to the fact that a lot of the various Macross characters have found themselves in a shared predicament. The release date for Macross 30 has also been set for February of next year.

Update: We also forgot to mention that the variable fighter silhouette seen in the game’s logo appears to be an entirely new design.

I’m always a little leery of these time-paradox/time travel/universe crossover storylines…What would have been the harm in simply having one character pilot all the various different mecha like, say, happens all the time in games like Ace Combat?

Because cross overs are just more fun and filled with fan service. Why do you think SRW is so popular?

Looks like another 9/10 game. The only question now is DLC.

I dunno, the Macross PSP games were solid but by no means flawless. Plus, the numerous Hybrid games made by Artdink still show that they have a lot to prove on PS3. I’m definitely curious though.

You gave Triangle Frontier an 8/10.What will it take for the extra point?

Well, they first have to get to the same level of functionality as the PSP games (thus far the PS3 hybrid games have been pretty average). Bar that, it’s down to polished functionality, mission and unit variety as well as a lot of other factors.

Honest concerns–never played TF, but MUF is still one of the best mecha games ever, in my view. I guess the only way to see if this will be good is to see and play the finished version.

Anyone else notice the Hunter Guild and quest screenshot at the end?

So basically it looks like they are going to poop out the PSP game once again but this time make it for PS3. OK.

I think I might be done with buying what is almost exactly the same thing over and over and over again for now. This being a PS3 game its going to cost $20 more than the PSP games too, and it will probably be remixed in a year and a half or less.

When this gets released I’ll just play through Ultimate Frontier again and have probably the exact same amount of fun at the same time without dropping $100.

You might be right but this looks a bit more bespoke than that. We’ll know for sure once it’s release next year.

Surely you could spring for triangle frontier…IN HD!!! In all seriousness I don’t think they’ll reinvent the wheel either but since I only own MUF I’m still game for this.

The screenshot is awesome & sharp with HD details like shadows and particle effects. If it won’t make a good game it’d still be good filler for a picture frame.

I noticed that for some reason, Ivanov and Nora aren’t trying to kill Shin and Isamu doesn’t mind having a psychotic AI’s hologram sitting on his lap.

Dat cross over goodness.
