It’s been reported that Takeshi Miyaji has passed away on July 29th aged 45. One of the founding members of Gamearts, at the age of 19 no less, and the creator of the Gungriffon series (as well as Grandia and Silpheed among others) he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.

Such a shame. I really enjoyed Gungriffon Blaze; I especially liked the transition from the action-heavy intro to the somber and lonely title screen.

Roll on.

Agreed, Beam. The first two Gungriffon games were outstanding, and I ended up enjoying the third one (but not the fourth!). I also loved Grandia II.

This is sad news to hear–45 is still relatively young. My condolences to his family and friends.

Japanese people seem to die early for some reason.I think the only thing keeping Tomino alive is bitterness.

I am really sad that he’s died so young! He was such a great game maker and innovator. The 1st Gungriffon and especially my import of 2 have remained some of my all time favorite games. The Saturn version of two had a system link function that allowed you to co-op play a wave mode that was awesome. It even had a pilot gunner control set up. The game also obviously influenced Steel Battalion. Just great games I own the whole series and will always go back to them as great mech games!

The inspired legacy lives on in Hawken.
