However, I don’t know the finer points of jazz-inspired mobility.

Comment on Features: Armored Hardcore by qmishery http://www.mechadamashii.com/features/features-armored-hardcore/comment-page-1/#comment-34403 Fri, 20 Oct 2017 20:05:50 +0000 http://www.mechadamashii.com/?p=13#comment-34403 Unexpected and maybe crazy, but i have some comparison to Quake 3. If you perhaps could know, Quake 3, especially on pro level, was the game that demanded technical play, of which mastering movement was very important (all those technics from circlestrafe to different bunnyhop variants to plasmaride) alongside with tactial approach to “controlling” arena and resources on it, out-thinking your opponent(s) and predicting their actions. Ironically, haters considered Q3 “primitive and too straight” as they had no idea about mindgames and how much game can demand from player to improve.

So many people never “got” it and were more happy with Unreal Tournament which was more flashy in many ways (though pretty good, too and with its own tricks in the sleeve). And, anyway, all of that is now nearly dead because competitive fps games shifted to Call of Duty alike deathmatch or MOBA hybrids like Overwatch.

Now, Armored Core, i can’t comment on versus aspects (especially more tactical V/VD approaches), but when i think about role of movement with all this gliding, overboosting, hard landing, joustering, bunnyhop, flanking… Only to q3 i can draw similarities, even if it sounds very strange. There were other fps games that tried to improve on movements (ambitious Tribes series which born from Earthsiege – you had crazy things like acrobatics there etc.), or those Titanfall tricks (ahem, if we talk mechas again..), but none have surpassed.

Oh and of course you can say Virtual On would be better thing to remember with it’s movelist, but that doesnt matter; even AC1 incredibly impressed me how much control you have on how you move mecha (walk, run, jump, boost on ground, boost on air, strafe, all combos of above etc.) and later games added on that. SO I GET MAD when people say how clunky and clumsy AC games are; while AC give you very fine controls. (Well, perhaps people dont know yet that instead of slowly turning back you should back-boost ac + radar is helpful etc. etc.)

Comment on Features: Armored Hardcore by Dark Souls è il nuovo metro di paragone del difficile? – Geek Berry http://www.mechadamashii.com/features/features-armored-hardcore/comment-page-1/#comment-34231 Fri, 13 Oct 2017 11:54:58 +0000 http://www.mechadamashii.com/?p=13#comment-34231 […] […]
