Over at HobbyLink.tv we’ve reviewed the recent webshop exclusive Soul of Chogokin Spec Layzner Mark II. It’s a glorious good toy and likely the nicest one we’ll ever get of the design. So check it out!

Also over the next few days we’ll be posting a few more toy reviews here. Lots of new Robot Damashii goodness. We’re also aware we’ve been a bit quiet as of late. That’s mainly because we’re in a release lull for mecha games. Once things kick off again we’ll still be here, so don’t worry!

We recently reviewed the amazing Robot Damashii Full Armor ZZ Gundam over at Hobbylink.tv, this being the final version of the titular mobile suit as seen in ZZ Gundam. It’s an amazing figure though and whilst a webshop exclusive is worth getting. The detailing alone for a figure of this size is pretty fantastic really.

For those that are interested, we’ve recently reviewed the DX Chogokin YF-30 Chronos from the PS3 game Macross 30 over at HobbyLink.tv (in addition to a small unboxing piece too). Despite being an obviously great toy, we still can’t get over the basic fact it exists at all. Considering that this is a one off design without any variants and it’s from a game to boot, the fact we have such an brilliant toy of the design is pretty amazing really. If you haven’t played the game yet, then it was recently re-released under the discount “The Best” label.

Following the announcement of an X2 toy, soon to be released in September, we now also have news of a new toy release. That of the plucky XM-X3 (F97) Crossbone Gundam X3. Unlike the X2, the X3 will be a webshop exclusive sadly. Priced at 5,616 yen and released in February next year, the pre-orders start today. There’s a definite push for more Crossbone Gundam toys though. As we had the Full Cloth, the X1 option parts set and even Harrison’s F-91 released or announced. What’s weird about all this, is that we have already had several Robot Damashii toys released of the various Crossbone Gundam mobile suits (bar the Full Cloth) and those had the ABC mantles too. Anyway, updated releases or not we’re just happy to see more of those classic mobile suits get the Robot Damashii treatment. If only they’d do the decent thing and make an anime already.

At the recent Hobby Maker show in Akiba, we got another glimpse of the upcoming PlayStation Optimus Prime. Compared to the showing at WonFes, this one was all nicely painted up. Naturally, the MegaDrive Megatron was present too and that will be released in October for around 10,000 yen. The PlayStation Optimus Prime has no release date as yet, bar sometime next year, but the pricing will likely be the same as the upcoming Megatron. If you want to see some more coverage from the Hobby Maker show then check this post out at AmiAmi.

Following on from the MegaDrive Megatron toy being made by Takara Tomy, they’ve now also announced an Optimus Prime toy based on the original PlayStation. Like the first toy, this too was designed by our good friend Junji Okubo. This new toy is likely being made to semi-coincide with the 20th Anniversary of the original PlayStation, which is this year. No word on pricing but it looks like it will be released next year. We’re also guessing this will be present at the upcoming Wonder Festival this Sunday.

Toys: Revoltech Overman King Gainer Re-Release

One of the first Revoltech toys we bought was the pretty damn great Overman King Gainer (we even have the Xan too). Well, for those that missed out, the figure is getting re-released in October. Now whilst King Gainer has graced many a game over the years, the big gaming deal about the design is that it was penned by Akira Yasuda (of Street Fighter fame, amongst many other things). It’s also a very unconventional mecha design and that’s one of the reasons we like it so much. Anyway, we can recommend this figure to pretty much everyone, so pick it up once it is re-released later this year.
