News: Hatsune Miku X Virtual On?

Sega’s red hot line of rhythm games for the PSP, starring the most popular Vocaloid of them all, Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA, is about to celebrate a third release. In each previous instalment, the singing synth app mascot has a wide variety of costumes to choose from, to aide in her virtual idol duties. A few have paid tribute to past Sega titles; thus far we’ve seen garb that references Space Channel 5 and Valkyria Chronicles. So it wasn’t a huge shocker to learn that in the upcoming ver 2.5, players have a Sonic themed jumpsuit waiting for them, it being his 20th anniversary. But what did come as a shocker was the image above, which seemingly combines Vocaloid and Virtualoid. Nothing has been made official by Sega… according to Game Watch, it was leaked by Famitsu… but a Fei-Yen costume seems very likely. At any rate, it’s curious how Sega hasn’t pimped the character all that much thus far, considering how she’s a staple at pretty much every garage kit show in her native land these days. I can’t believe there isn’t an official Fei-Yen in schoolgirl threads statue already (unless there already is one that I’m totally not aware of… more than likely, some prize for a UFO Catcher game).

Update: The official Virtual On Force for 360 site confirms the Fei-Yen appearance with some nice screenshots too.

News: Kawamori designs plane for Ace Combat Assault Horizon

Over at 4Gamer there’s a new piece on the forthcoming Ace Combat Assault Horizon. Curiously at the bottom of the page is a picture (shown above) of a DLC specific fighter tentatively dubbed the “F-X” that’s designed by none other than Shoji Kawamori. Whilst it very likely won’t transform, it’s cool to effectively see a VF-9 Cutlass grace a game like this. Admittedly the sound of the Optimum control setup makes us want to gouge our eyes out with a rusty spoon but it’s good to know that the proper “original” controls will also still be available to those that haven’t mated with their closest relatives. The game will be released this October but no word on when Kawamori’s plane will hit DLC.

News: Armored Core V World Setting

After the veritable yearly clusterfuck that is E3, Armored Core V has exited out the other side safely. Whilst not displayed at the show, unlike Dark Souls From Software’s other forthcoming title, Armored Core V is still ticking along in terms of its PR. This week 4Gamer have a piece on the details behind area acquisition and how that culminates in effectively an AC face-off as well as some information on the game’s back story. Much like the 1997 original, humanity has suffered a global catastrophe, though this time brought about by environmental forces. With wars erupting across the globe as resources become precious and suitably rare. The interesting twist though is that the AC’s actually pre-date this devastation and are dug up from deep underground, in a manner not too dissimilar to the events in Panzer World Galient. Separately, there are now new character types known as “migrants” that travel between areas of the world to trade resources (including weapons). Whether these will act as mobile shops is not clear as yet though.

What with Gundam Memories’ release a few weeks away, some more screenshots have surfaced on 4Gamer showing the variety of mobile armors in the game. Not to mention outlining three multiplayer modes; Time Match, Death Match and MS Hunt. The piece also spooges over a variety of new Gundam SEED Destiny units in the game, so your mileage may vary on that. We’ll be picking this up on release too, so a review will be forthcoming.

News: Level 5 working on new Gundam anime

Over at Anime News Network they have the scoop on what the silhouetted Gundam is for. Sadly, it’s not for a home port of Gundam Extreme Versus but instead for a new series called Gundam AGE. the interesting part is that the whole thing is effectively being helmed by renowned Japanese games developer Level 5. Much in the same way they’ve worked on the upcoming Danball Senki, Gundam AGE will also have all manner of merchandising tie-ins (including games). It’s pretty clear that this new show is being pitched at a younger demographic and the protagonist’s new mecha, the Gundam AGE-1, reminds us a fair bit of the GPB-X80 Beginning Gundam from Gunpla Builders.

News: Possible Gundam Extreme Versus Port

Over at Gundam.info they’re teasing a new release, using a silhouette somewhat similar to the Extreme Gundam from Gundam Extreme Versus. We’re hoping this means we’ll be finally seeing a PS3 port of the game sometime later this year. In any case, the full brief will be divulged via a live stream on June 13th. The fact that Bandai Namco are handling the stream makes us think this is likely to be game related, but who knows.

Update: Anime News Network is reporting this could more likely be a new anime series than a game announcement. Anyway, we’ll know more on June 13th.

News: Zone of the Enders HD Editions

Along with a slew of Metal Gear Solid Games, Konami have announced that they will also be bring both PlayStation 2 Zone of the Enders games into the bright light of day that is HD. Slated for a “2012” release, both games will be available on the PS3 and 360, either boxed or via digital download. In addition, the two player functionality from the games will also be available. Whether this will be online multiplayer remains to be seen but if so it would fix the fundamental nonsense the original games suffered from, as players wouldn’t need to fight over the camera. Whilst we aren’t fans of the games, in a functional sense at least, it will be interesting to see how they perform with this new HD lick of paint. No doubt Konami are testing the waters to see if the franchise is still financially viable.

Another live stream event for Armored Core V will be happening on the 2nd June. Around an hour long it will also feature the opening CG cinematic for the game. Whilst we’ve already seen snippets of the CG movie from the (re)announcement trailer, it will be cool to see more of it finally. Especially as From Software have a pretty stellar track record when it comes to this kind of thing, with the opening cinematic for Armored Core Last Raven being one of our favourites.

From the incomparable gevurah22, creator of many other LittleBigPlanet mecha creations, has outdone himself yet again with a LittleBigPlanet 2 stage entitled The Gundam Wing Project: Survival Training. The video below shows the Wing Gundam unbelievably well-animated for something put together in a game’s somewhat simplistic editor, and the author is continuing to add content to the stage, including a boss fight against the Wing Gundam’s nemesis, the Tallgeese. The Tallgeese might have a silly name and a silly red hat, but those backpack verniers will make any Gundam come down with a case of thruster envy.
