So the initial announcement of Project HON sorta cherry picked footage for impact and didn’t give much of an overall sense of the game. Well, now we have around 20 minutes of mostly unedited game footage. In it, we see how much this game is like Armored Core V and Verdict Day. Not to mention how it has taken inspiration from classic anime like Gordian, where mecha get into larger mecha in order to power up. In addition to this new footage we’ve also been graced with a video of the game running on a mobile device. Now the game isn’t playable in this form, as it’s meant as a spectator setup only, but it’s technically very impressive to see. The new videos are shown below.

Dracue’s great little homage to 90s side scrolling mecha shoot-em-ups, Gunhound EX, is now on sale over at the Steam store. With a whopping 80% discount in effect, you’d be crazy not to pick this up. This is actually the PSP game that was released a while back but the game works fine on PC (as originally Gunhound was a PC game anyway). We will get around to reviewing these games though, we promise. In the meantime, buy this little beauty. It really is a great little game!

News: From Software Media Event Update

So there was a recent press event hosted by Kadokawa Games and From Software, with people like Hidetaka Miyazaki (shown above) present. As we reported a while back, we were told a new game would be announced at this event. Now some games were announced but the bad news is that none of them were Armored Core or anything mecha related. This doesn’t mean that the studio isn’t making mecha games anymore but that there are no official announcements of games to that effect. This isn’t overly surprising as Bloodborne is a massive game and it’s clear the bulk of the studio, if not all, are working on it to get the game done in time for its March release next year. However, Kadokawa is known in Japan for ruining studios (what happened to Prope, Yuji Naka’s studio, is fairly standard behaviour on their part). The Souls series was already in development when the Kadokawa acquisition happened, so once all those are released next year it will be interesting to see what happens to From Software. In the meantime, we hope they can get Bloodborne done on time.

Over the weekend we went to see Bandai’s Macross Chogokin Exhibit in Akiba. It was pretty great and showed off old and new tots alike. From the VF-19 Advance (above) to a new toy range, called Hi-Metal R, that featured all manner of classic designs. The latter might indicate the Harmony Gold legal situation might be changing too but we’ll see on that. We’re also getting a new anime too by the looks of it, by the name of Macross Delta. No real details as yet but they are getting ready for singing auditions. We covered this over at Forbes (yeah, we are also writing there now) but there’s also a nice little gallery of the event here.

To sweeten the deal for newer players buying Gundam Breaker 2 on release, Bandai have thrown in an incentive. For first time buyers of the game, they will be given a code for the new BG-011B Build Burning Gundam from Gundam Build Fighters Try (shown below). This means players will be able to use this unit’s parts to create their own version, as is the way with the Gundam Breaker games. The game is set for a December 18th release and you can pre-order it here.

At the current G-Star 2014 show in Korea, it seems that NCSoft has announced a new mecha TPS game called Project HON. This looks to be quite similar in functionality to Armored Core V and Verdict Day and is also using Unreal Engine 4. Previously, NCSoft has made only fantasy styled MMOs with human scaled characters. They currently have no experience making any form of mecha TPS game but from what we have seen it looks they might be able to pull it off.

Update: Added new footage and modified above text.

News: Gundam Breaker 2 Parts Upgrade System Details

Following up from the reveal that parts can be upgraded in Gundam Breaker 2 we now have more details on what that will look like in game. The main thrust is that weapons will acquire special type attacks depending on the type and upgrade, as well various stat increases. In addition, weapons are directly forged in this manner and the upgrades are a continuation of that. Again, considering how complex the customisation already was in the first game this seems a tad excessive. We’ll see once the game is released we suppose. The game is set for a December 18th release and you can pre-order it here.

News: Project Nimbus Early Access Announced

We’ve known about Project Nimbus for a good while but have not really been covering it. Partly because most Kickstarters don’t amount to much but also we weren’t sure about it either. However, as of November 5th the game will be available via Early Access on Steam. This will include the first four story chapters among other things. Now we’re not a fan of Early Access on principle, as really games should only be released once they are finished, but we’re happy to see that these guys have managed to get this far. In any case, the game looks to be very much inspired by the likes of Armored Core For Answer and is also aerial based. If you are at all curious then the early access trailer is shown below.

What with the release of Gundam Breaker 2 around the corner we’ve now had a somewhat interesting game system revealed. Namely that parts can now be individually upgraded. Considering how complex the customisation system already is, makes this feel a tad overdone. That aside the new Gundam Wing units look pretty marvellous and shiny golden Beargguy is not about to get old any time soon. The game is set for a December 18th release and you can pre-order it here.
